This is no longer an early-fall maybe: Massachusetts apple picking is active. The state lists apple season from August through November and more than 80 pick-your-own farms. The key is checking the farm's same-day update before driving, because a busy weekend can change the available varieties or close a field early. Tougas Family Farm — Northborough

Tougas reports apple picking underway, including Honeycrisp season. Its current pricing lists a roughly 10-pound peck box at $36 for up to two people and a roughly 20-pound half-bushel box at $50 for up to five. Additional people are $10. Check What's Picking Today before leaving because fields can close when picked out.

Honey Pot Hill Orchards — Stow

Honey Pot Hill lists Ginger Gold, Akane, Sansa, Gravenstein, Smitten, McIntosh and Bartlett pears among current pick-your-own options. A peck bag is listed at $25 and a half-bushel at $38; hayrides are priced separately when operating. The farm store is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during this portion of the season. Cider Hill Farm — Amesbury

Cider Hill's apple season runs from late August into mid-October. Its 2026 pricing lists a half-peck at $16 for up to two pickers, a peck at $32 for up to four and a half-bushel at $48 for up to six. Parlee Farms — Tyngsborough

Parlee says its fall season has arrived and normally runs apple picking from late August through late October. Pumpkins generally follow in mid-September, so do not assume every fall activity is open yet. Use Today's Farm News for the actual daily crop and field status.

Before loading the car

  • Check the farm's update the same morning—not the night before.
  • Confirm whether advance tickets or a required picking container apply.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and bring water; orchard ground can be uneven.
  • Do not promise children pumpkins unless the farm specifically lists the patch as open.
