Information you choose to provide
Newsletter signup stores your email address, signup source, consent record and timestamps. Event, business and tip forms store the information shown in the form, including contact details and the substance of your submission.
617 News also records limited first-party measurement data, including an anonymous session identifier, pages viewed, selected links, referral domain and campaign tags. These measurement records are not designed to identify a person and are not joined to newsletter email addresses.
The website may also receive ordinary technical request information needed for security, reliability and abuse prevention through its hosting provider.

How information is used
617 News uses subscriber information to manage the newsletter list and submission information to evaluate coverage, verify details and contact the sender. Personal information is not sold.
Audience measurement is used to understand which Boston coverage is useful, improve newsletter conversion and evaluate promotion. A newsletter delivery provider and Google Analytics may process relevant information after those services are activated.
Records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for those purposes, legal obligations, security and newsroom documentation, then deleted or de-identified when practical.

Sharing and service providers
Information may be processed by infrastructure providers that host the site, database and newsroom systems, and may be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety. 617 News does not publish a source's identity merely because someone submitted a tip.
