Boston is never just one story. It is a late-night kitchen serving one more order, a youth team practicing after school, a neighborhood business opening its doors, a car club meeting by the water, and a block full of people who know exactly what makes their corner of the city matter.

617 News was created to bring those pieces together in one independent Boston publication: useful enough to help readers make a plan, local enough to recognize the people doing the work, and clear enough that readers can see how each story was produced.

Why we’re building 617 News

Much of the information that shapes a Boston week is scattered across flyers, social posts, group chats, business pages, calendars, and word of mouth. Our job is to find what is worth knowing, verify the details, and present it in a way that respects the reader’s time.

We are starting deliberately. Instead of publishing a flood of thin posts, we want to build a smaller body of original work that can become more useful over time: guides that are updated, photographs with complete credits, business stories with context, and neighborhood reporting that treats local knowledge as an asset.

What you’ll find here

617 News is designed as both a city guide and a culture journal. Our core desks reflect the way people actually experience Boston:

  • Events that are worth putting on the calendar, with the practical details readers need to attend.
  • Food + Drink coverage centered on the people, places, and traditions behind what Boston eats.
  • Local Business stories that make neighborhood operators, workers, and institutions easier to discover.
  • Community reporting about the people, organizations, and ideas strengthening the city block by block.
  • Cars and Sports Culture coverage that takes Boston’s passions seriously without losing the human story.
  • Photo + Video work that lets readers see the city with more care, context, and credit for the creator.

How we plan to earn trust

Every 617 News story should answer a few basic questions: who wrote it, when it was published, where the information came from, who created the images, and whether any outside party paid for or materially influenced the work.

Behind each article, our newsroom records source checks, image permissions, disclosures, and corrections. Drafts stay private. Sponsored work must be labeled. If a material fact changes or an error is corrected, readers should be able to see that plainly on the story.

Those standards are built into the publishing system, but the system is only the beginning. Trust will come from using it consistently, listening when readers point something out, and showing our work over time.

Built with Boston, not just about it

We want to hear from residents, photographers, organizers, business owners, artists, coaches, mechanics, cooks, and everyone else who knows a corner of Boston better than we do. A strong local publication should make it easier for those voices to reach the city without turning every story into an advertisement.

No newsroom can see every block at once. Tips, corrections, event information, original photography, and story ideas will help 617 News find what deserves a closer look. Until dedicated submission tools open, readers can reach the newsroom at admin@617news.com.

What comes next

This launch note is the first real story in the 617 News newsroom. From here, we will begin publishing useful Boston guides and original neighborhood stories, then connect the newsletter, event submissions, local-business profiles, audience measurement, and the systems that can support the publication for the long term.

The goal is not simply to fill a website. It is to build a Boston media property that becomes more useful, more trusted, and more valuable with every strong piece of work.

Boston is bigger than a headline. We’re here to cover it block by block.

Welcome to 617 News.
